Radcoms new 3G video analyzer monitors end-to-end mobile video service quality over 3G networks. The analyzer offers a comprehensive analysis of video service from the user plane to the core network and physical connection, enabling wireless device manufacturers and network operators to monitor and troubleshoot high-quality video sessions such as video teleconferencing, video streaming, video-on-demand and interactive video. The analyzer examines video over 3G-324M circuit switch sessions, and functions on various connections such as UMTS and CDMA networks. It analyzes video over IP using different IP multimedia signaling protocols as well as synchronizes multiple video playback of MPEG4 and H.263 sessions of all video participants in a single view. The company says the 3G video analyzer isolates problems, such as long video setup duration, that cause poor quality video characterized by jerkiness, incorrect audio, blank picture transmission and poor lip synchronization.

For those unfamiliar with the insurance industry, reinsurance companies provide insurance to “primary” insurers, the insurance companies that provide individuals with auto, home, and life insurance and businesses with commercial insurance. The primary insurance company transfers risk to reinsurers in exchange for the premiums associated with the risk. The transfer facilitates three things. First, it allows the primary insurers to accept more business from their clients. Second, it distributes and diversifies risks within the global insurance industry. Finally, it allows the primary insurer to accept a larger amount of risk, while retaining less risk on its balance sheet and reducing the chances of insolvency from any one major client or catastrophe. Reinsurers are considered the experts on risk assessment in the industry–we must be to assume risk from other risk management companies. In fact, reinsurers generally supply underwriting and actuarial support to their clients, providing guidance on best practices. Though the public views insurance companies as deriving their revenue from premiums, they can be viewed as investment funds with contingent liabilities (contingent upon an insured loss event–a fire, earthquake, car accident, etc.). Asset management and asset/liability management are core competencies of all large (re)insurers, since they manage huge asset portfolios derived from the premiums that reside with the insurer until the claims are made. The Swiss Reinsurance Company was founded in 1863 after the need for a Swiss reinsurer was made apparent by a catastrophic fire in the town of Glarus. In 2002, Swiss Re earned approximately $20 billion in premiums, and assets were over $100 billion. It is the largest reinsurer of life insurance and the second largest reinsurer of property/casualty (P C) risk worldwide. Swiss Re is a company that prides itself on its strength of risk management knowledge–our mission is “To be the authority on managing capital and risk.” As head of Swiss Res Economic Research and Consulting (ER C), North America, I have responsibility for the North American part of Swiss Res “sigma” insurance research program. In addition, I manage Swiss Res North American strategic planning for the Life and Property Casualty business groups and global strategic planning for our Financial Services business group. Also, I supervise the internal consulting ER C does for the local business groups. Finally, I act as the chief economist for Conning Asset Management, a wholly owned subsidiary that manages assets of medium-sized insurance companies. Given my background at WEFA, Inc. (now Global Insight), one of my mandates as head of the NY branch of ER C is to strengthen ER Cs ties to our proprietary asset managers and to provide guidance on macroeconomic forecasting and the analysis of sovereign risk. I am supported in this work by an excellent staff of five–four of whom have Ph.D.s and the fifth a masters degree, all in economics. One is an expert in P C insurance, a second specializes in life insurance. The three others are experts in financial markets, but also provide support to our life and P C business groups.

WASHINGTON — King Spalding announced today that former United States Solicitor General Paul Clement will rejoin the firms Washington, D.C., office to establish an expanded national appellate practice and a strategic counseling practice. Clement, 42, is returning to the firm after a seven-year absence during which he served as the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States, the nations top lawyer before the Supreme Court. The Senate confirmed Clement as the 43rdSolicitor General in 2005 at the age of 38, making him the youngest Solicitor General confirmed by the Senate since William Howard Taft in 1890. Before his confirmation as Solicitor General, Clement served as Acting Solicitor General for nearly a year and as Principal Deputy Solicitor General for over three years. In total, Clement served over seven years in the Office of the Solicitor General, the longest period of continuous service in the Office by a Solicitor General since the 19th Century. He has argued 49 cases before the Supreme Court, including McConnell v. FEC, Tennessee v. Lane, Rumsfeld v. Padilla, United States v. Booker and MGM v. Grokster. He also argued a number of the governments most important cases in the lower federal courts. “We are very pleased to welcome our former colleague and friend Paul Clement back to King Spalding,” said J. Sedwick (Wick) Sollers, managing partner of King Spaldings Washington office. “Paul is widely considered to be one of the most talented and accomplished lawyers of his generation and our clients and growing appellate practice will benefit greatly from Pauls vast knowledge and experience before the U.S. Supreme Court, and before appeals courts nationwide.” Clement added: “I am delighted to be returning to King Spalding. I know firsthand that King Spalding is a tremendous firm and a wonderful place to practice law. I look forward to taking the firms appellate practice to new heights.” Clement clerked for Judge Laurence H. Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (1992-1993), and for Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court (1993-1994). He then went on to serve as an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland Ellis, and as chief counsel of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Federalism and Property Rights. He then was a partner at King Spalding, where he headed the firms appellate practice until he joined the Office of the Solicitor General. Since leaving the Justice Department in June, Clement has been a visiting professor at the Georgetown University Law Center and a senior fellow at Georgetowns Supreme Court Institute.

Wood of the Month makes a slight detour from the forest this month to spotlight bamboo. While wood-like with a woody stem, in reality bamboo is a giant of the grass family. INBAR, the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan, says there are roughly 1,500 documented traditional uses for bamboo, ranging from foodstuffs and landscape elements to furniture, flooring and paneling. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Albert Constantine Jr. writes in his book, Know Your Woods, that bamboo species in Ceylon were observed to grow 16 inches in a day. Other reference books document growth of as much as 36 inches in 24 hours. While not all bamboo plants grow that quickly, most reach their rill height within a few months. There are more than 1,000 species of bamboo worldwide. Maxfield Hunter, president of Western Dovetail Inc., says one commonly used species, moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubesecens), “Can grow to a height of 40 feet or more with a diameter at the base exceeding 6 inches in a space of three to five years.” Bamboo is considered a green product. Hunter said most major bamboo mills claim that their bamboo comes from managed forests and does not pose a threat to the endangered Panda bears living in the wild. Supplies typically come from bamboo forests under the control of the Chinese Department of Forestry in Hunan, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces.
Ask Ann Knight to explain the steady rise in popularity of bamboo flooring in the U.S. market and she likely quote her companys tagline: “Beautiful, durable and renewable bamboo.” Knight, vice president of marketing for Teragren LLC, says, “I think each element of our tagline offers a clue to why the market has accepted our flooring and other products. Bamboo flooring and related products have the green story down pat, but the big picture is that the products look good and perform well. too. People dont want to buy an ugly floor. And durability is a major factor with flooring. The renewability aspect kind of clinches the deal,” she says. Teragren, formerly TimberGrass LLC, has been a prominent player in the importation of bamboo flooring and related products for the past decade. Knights husband, David, is president/CEO of the Bainbridge Island, WA-based company. “Teragren brought quality and consistency standards to the very new bamboo flooring market in 1994 when it introduced its first flooring brand, TimberGrass,” Ann Knight says. “We were the pioneers of the industry in 94. We were looking for an alternative to wood fiber, found the factory in China and cemented the relationship that endures today. We changed our name in 2003 because the other name was closely associated with bamboo flooring and we want to go into sustainably harvested hardwoods, too.” Teragren works exclusively with one factory group in the Zheijiang Province of China and another in Malaysia where the tongue-and-groove floating floor planks, requiring neither glue nor nails to install, are produced. Teragren has expanded its bamboo product offerings to include 4-foot by 8-foot panels available in 1/4- or 3/4-inch thickness and 1/8-inch-thick veneer sheets. The panels can be used for cabinetry and furniture, wall treatments and other applications.

The Pictorial Print Division (PPD) serves those who make prints or have their work displayed as prints. Prints may be self-made, commercial, digital, or darkroom printed. If the final copy is a print, then consider what the Pictorial Print Division has to offer. A group of 8-12 photographers make up a Print Study Group. A portfolio of prints is mailed to each member in turn, and the member comments on each print, removes a previous print, inserts a new print, and adds a personal newsletter. The last member sends the portfolio to the “commentator,” an experienced photographer who provides an “expert” opinion on each print. The secretary sets a new schedule and starts the portfolio on the next round. The following are some of the portfolios available: American Portfolio–Approximately 30 portfolios to fit individual needs: color, monochrome, nature, contemporary, commercial, assigned subjects, digital printing, darkroom printing, 8×10, 11×14, etc. Portrait Portfolios–Five Study Groups, including Character Studies, Children, Animals, Figure Studies, and Glamour Girl. The emphasis is on posing, lighting, apparel, and backgrounds. Canadian and European Portfolios–Canadians and Europeans participate with fellow members from their own or neighboring countries. POM is a monthly print competition for all PSA members. Subject matter and printing techniques are “open.” Four classes, two for color and two for monochrome, allow experienced and less experienced photographers to compete on their own levels. Qualified PSA judges critique your prints and provide written comments and suggestions for improvements. Each month 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners receive certificates, and the winning prints are posted on the POM Gallery web pages. A “Picture of the Month” is selected for publication in the PSA Journal. Winners and Honorable Mentions receive “points,” and at the end of the year the member with the most points in each of four categories receives a PPD medal. You may join POM at any time. If you would like to be a POM judge, contact the POM director.

(This is one of a series of articles on Alfred Adlers “Counseling Theories.”) When you hear terms like inferiority feelings, inferiority complex, superiority complex, and compensation, you are encountering ideas developed by Alfred Adler. From his understanding of organ inferiority, Adler began to see each individual as having a feeling of inferiority. Adler wrote, “to be a human being means to feel oneself inferior. The child comes into the world as a helpless little creature surrounded by powerful adults. A child is motivated by his feelings of inferiority to strive for greater things. When he has reached one level of development, he begins to feel inferior once more and the striving for something better begins again which is the great driving force of mankind.” Every person has inferiority feelings whether he will or can admit it. Adler says that since the feeling of inferiority is regarded as a sign of weakness and as something shameful, there is naturally a strong tendency to conceal it. Indeed, the effort of concealment may be so great that the person himself ceases to be aware of his inferiority as such, being wholly preoccupied with the consequences of the feeling and with all the objective details that subserve its concealment. So effectively may an individual train his whole mentality for this task that the entire current of his psychic life flows ceaselessly form below to above, that is, from feeling of inferiority to that of superiority. This occurs automatically and escapes his own notice. It is not surprising that we often receive a negative reply when we ask a person whether he has a feeling of inferiority. It is better not to press the point, but to observe his psychological movements, in which the attitude and individual goal can always be discerned.

In this paper, three metaheuristics are proposed for solving a class of job shop, open shop, and mixed shop scheduling problems. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms by means of a set of Lawrences benchmark instances for the job shop problem, a set of randomly generated instances for the open shop problem, and a combined job shop and open shop test data for the mixed shop problem. The computational results show that the proposed algorithms perform extremely well on all these three types of shop scheduling problems. The results also reveal that the mixed shop problem is relatively easier to solve than the job shop problem due to the fact that the scheduling procedure becomes more flexible by the inclusion of more open shop jobs in the mixed shop. Keywords: Machine scheduling; open shop; job shop; mixed shop; metaheuristics. In combinatorial optimization, machine scheduling problems have been the subjects of extensive research since the early 1950s (Baker, 1974). Many of the early developments were motivated by problems arising in the area of manufacturing. The machine scheduling problems that we consider in this study can be described as follows: Given m machines and n jobs, the jobs are to be processed on the m machines. A schedule specifics, for each machine i and each job j, a time interval throughout which processing is performed on job j by machine i. A schedule is feasible if each job can only be processed on one machine and each machine can only process one job at a time, and also if it satisfies various requirements imposed on the jobs and machines relating to the specific problem type. According to the machine environment and job characteristics, machine scheduling problems can be divided into two production systems: single-stage system and multi-stage system. A single-stage system requires one operation for each job, whereas in a multi-stage system there are jobs that require operations on different machines. Single-stage systems involve either a single machine referred to as the single-machine scheduling problem, or m machines in parallel referred to as the parallel-machine scheduling problem. In multi-stage systems, there are three types of basic shop scheduling problems: the flow shop scheduling (FSS) problem, the job shop scheduling (JSS) problem, and the open shop scheduling (OSS) problem. In a flow shop, each job is processed on machines 1, . . . , m in this unidirectional fixed order. In a job shop, each job has a prescribed routing through the machines, but the routing for each job may be different. In an open shop, the routing through the machines is unrestricted and forms a part of the decision process. The objective function of minimizing the maximum completion time (makespan) is the main focus in most studies for shop scheduling problems in the literature.

To avoid wasting advertising dollars, it is a good idea to develop a checklist for proofing all printed advertising. The doctor and staff can use this list to approve ads and avoid costly mistakes. If there is no one on staff who has mastered the talent of proofreading, consider using the services of a professional proofreader to make sure all your materials look professional. As you prepare your marketing campaign, keep the following in mind. Printed advertisements are now being sold on almost every available surface and object. Buses, grocery carts, park benches, taxis, pens, pharmacy bags, magnets, restaurant placemats, and even cars are a few examples. Doctors must remember that just because someone has placed an ad on an item or in a visible space, it does not mean that the ad will be effective. Many forms of printed advertisements are only effective for the ad agencys bottom line or to offset an organizations expenses. Coupons printed on the back of grocery store receipts are perfect examples. It is almost impossible for the agency to track the effectiveness of these programs. In other words, the advertisement is a shot in the dark. For the advertising agency and the grocery store, the ads are a great deal. The agency receives a set fee for each ad, and the cost of register tape is offset for the grocery store.
ROCHESTER, Mich. — A breakthrough survey conducted by Foresight Research quantifies the
automotive sales impact of print articles and print advertising. Then it
compares print articles and print advertising influence to other forms
of marketing communications used by auto buyers.

The study shows that the majority of vehicle buyers (62%) are influenced
to some degree by print articles, and 45% are influenced to some degree
by print advertising. 19% said print articles were a primary or secondary
purchase influence, and 8% reported that print advertising was a primary
or secondary influence.
“We also noted the influence by vehicle brand purchased and found that
BMW, Cadillac, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Hyundai and Mazda lead the brands
in terms of impact from print articles. Then we looked at the print
advertising side and many of the same brands appear. The reason is that
buyers are paying attention to both the articles and the ads,” says
Steve Bruyn, CEO of Foresight Research.

So, what are the most influential publications? Consumer Reports and
newspapers are widely influential but so are some of the automotive
publications like – Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile Magazine,
Road and Track and Autoweek. “This study proves that print publications
still play a role in this electronic era,” stated Bruyn.

Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics is an academic publication providing coverage and analysis of law.
Most debates about lawyers professional responsibilities ultimately devolve into discussions of the “role” of lawyers-including the functions lawyers serve in the legal system, how lawyers should achieve those functions, and how lawyers should reconcile conflicts between competing interests that are potentially affected by their conduct. The notion of a lawyers role can be helpful for identifying principles of behavior. Thus, for example, whether attorney-client confidentiality is appropriate and whether exceptions should be acknowledged depends on the conception of lawyers from which one starts. If lawyers are to be clients sole and fully-allied champions, then strict confidentiality rules make sense. If lawyers are to be objective intermediaries between clients and society and have independent obligations to the law, exceptions seem more acceptable. The task of code drafters is facilitated when they can proceed from the assumption that a single paradigm governs the lawyers role-either a paradigm encapsulating a theory of behavior (how lawyers ordinarily act) or a paradigm encapsulating a normative ideal (how lawyers should act). When code drafters rely upon multiple paradigms (for example, lawyers should act as clients alter egos and as officers of the court), inconsistent regulatory mandates can result, and lawyers may become confused about their functions. The ABAs 1908 Canons of Ethics, which prevailed in most American jurisdictions throughout the early twentieth century, suffered from an emphasis on inconsistent ideals.1 The bar was in a state of disagreement about lawyers roles and lawyers had no point of reference for determining how to act.2 Therefore, when the ABA adopted the first concrete professional code in 1969,3 it became important for the drafters to identify an over-arching theory. By emphasizing the lawyers place in the adversarial system, the 1969 code served a forceful unifying and educational function.4 Nevertheless, an ethics codes overemphasis on a single paradigm can lead to undesirable results. It tends to produce idealized rules that either rest on counter-factual assumptions or impose obligations on lawyers that are so inconsistent with their personal incentives that violations become routine. In modern times, an exclusive focus on the adversarial ethic seems less important than in 1969 because lawyers have developed a shared sense of core obligations to clients and of the part lawyers play in the legal system. The recent history of lawyer regulation reflects a desire on the part of the bar to fine-tune the basic message of the 1969 code-to recognize more nuances than, perhaps, a single image of lawyers can accommodate.5 The task of drafting professional rules is complicated by the fact that the public perception of the bar is not unitary. Society views lawyers in many different, and sometimes inconsistent, ways. These multiple conceptions influence code drafters. In practice, the modern legal ethics codes incorporate a number of “images” of lawyers as bases, or catalysts, for disciplinary rules. Relying on these images has consequences for how the codes treat lawyers and, as a theoretical matter, for how the rules should be drafted. Part I of this Article identifies some of the different images of lawyers that exist6 and the ramifications of emphasizing each image in the professional codes. Initially at least, this Article takes no position on the accuracy of the images in describing lawyer behavior-for example, whether lawyers act in a selfinterested manner or whether lawyers feel bound by unenforceable professional norms. As a practical matter, each of the images has solid footing in some respects. That is to say, each is based on a valid characterization of how lawyers act in some situations. Part I will suggest, however, that relying upon multiple paradigms inevitably fosters schizophrenia on the part of the code drafters.

Journal of the American Chiropractic Association is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to the advancement of chiropractic health care.
WHY NAME CHANGE UPSET CHIROPRACTORS The Florida legislature voted to change the name of chiropractic to “chiropractic medicine” in the closing hours of its legislative session (SB2128). The initiative for the change was fostered by the Florida Chiropractic Association to standardize the term “chiropractic physician” in every Florida statute, and to change the name of the licensing agency from the Board of Chiropractic to the Board of Chiropractic Medicine. All of this was done without an advance notice, a public hearing, or a debate. The International Chiropractors Association is extremely upset with this turn of events. The debate that is sure to ensue resurrects the issues that have divided chiropractic for nearly a century. As strange as it may seem, those who object to chiropractors being labeled “physicians,” and their expansion into medical practice, often find allies among the Straights. To understand the reason why, one must be familiar with the basis for the long-standing rift between “straight” and “mixer” chiropractors. In 1895 Iowa magnetic healer Daniel Palmer proclaimed that he had discovered the single cause for all disease. This was alleged to be partially displaced vertebrae (ie, “subluxations”) that impinged upon the free flow of the metaphysical life force he dubbed the “Innate Intelligence.” In the textbook, The Neurodynamics of the Vertebral Subluxation (Chiropractic Publishers, 1973), Homewood describes Palmers biotheology: The founder of.chiropractic appreciated the working of Universal Intelligence (God); the function of Innate Intelligence (Soul, Spirit or Spark of Life) within each, which he recognized as a minute segment of Universal; and the fundamental causes of interference to the planned expression of that Innate Intelligence in the form of mental, chemical and/or mechanical stresses, which create the structural distortions that interfere with nerve supply. Palmer asserted that subluxations could be detected and corrected by hand. The name “chiropractic” literally means “done by hand” (chiros=hand+practos=practice). Thus, the essence of chiropractic is that it is a drugless, non-surgical practice.
The Week in Chiropractic, Vol. 4, No. 36 CCE Reaffirms Accreditation of Two Chiropractic Programs The Commission on Accreditation (COA) of the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) reaffirmed the accreditation of two chiropractic programs during its semi-annual meeting June 18-20, 1998, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Accreditation is granted to chiropractic programs and institutions that comply with the CCE Standards for Chiropractic Programs and Institutions. The reaffirmation process includes continuous self-evaluation by the program or institution to measure its effectiveness in relation to it mission, goals, and objectives to provide a solid basis for future programming; official application to CCE for reaffirmation of accreditation by submitting a self-study report focusing attention on ongoing assessment of outcomes for continuing improvement of educational quality; a site team visit and report; and COA review and evaluation.

Read press releases distributed by Market Wire, including company news and finanical updates
Keywords: medical education, training of service providers, sexual and reproductive health curriculum MEDICAL educators have a responsibility to train physicians and other health professionals in the core competencies needed to improve the sexual and reproductive health of their communities. One of the distinguishing features of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo in 1994, (1) and its five-year follow-up by a special session of the UN General Assembly in 1999 (ICPD + 5) (2) is that they moved beyond rhetoric to define reproductive health, including sexual health, in the context of primary health care and to provide countries with specific goals, objectives, and targets, in order to provide quality sexual and reproductive health information and services. These reflect an international consensus on what needs to be achieved, requiring a combination of programme initiatives, public health policies, legislation, educational capacity building and community-wide efforts. Until recently, little interest has been expressed by medical educators in integrating sexual and reproductive health in the medical curriculum. Significantly, no international group that is representative of medical educators or the medical profession attended either ICPD in 1994 or the 1999 Special Session of the UN General Assembly, with the exception of the Commonwealth Medical Association.
